THE BLISS OF OBEDIENCE
Into
the mountain meadow steps the doe,
Carefully testing the scents of summer air,
Soon satisfied no unfriendly creatures know
That she is there.
At the forest fringe her faithful fawn obeys
The wise command, "Wait here." Then at her sign
What happy leaping forth to play and graze
In safe sunshine!
Such sweet security will also fill
My world if, on the threshold of a task
Or verge of great adventure, I am still—
No questions ask—
If loyal to Love's protective plan, content
To pause in sheltered patience undefiled
By fears, to respond at once with joy unspent
When God assures me:
"Now dear one!
Now
My child!"
