WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST

[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on July 21, 1963.]

Only begotten (John 3: 16)

These two English words represent the single Greek term monogenes, which has the literal meaning of "only-born," although it is often used in the sense of "only," a rendering used in this verse by Moffatt, by the Revised Standard Version, and by other authorities.

God sent not his Son... To condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved (John 3:17)
