[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on July 21, 1963.]
Only begotten (John 3: 16)
These two English words represent the single Greek term monogenes, which has the literal meaning of "only-born," although it is often used in the sense of "only," a rendering used in this verse by Moffatt, by the Revised Standard Version, and by other authorities.
