My parents became interested...
My parents became interested in Christian Science when I was about fourteen, and they were pioneers in the Christian Science movement in our city. There were many healings in our family, among them those of boils, pneumonia, so-called children's diseases, broken bones, and constipation. My father's habit of smoking just dropped away, and the healing of an eye condition enabled him to lay aside glasses he had worn for years.
My parents never allowed guests in the house, casual callers, or engagements to keep them from regular attendance at both services on Sunday and the Wednesday testimony meeting. At that time I resented my parents' leaving their former churches for this new religion which none of my friends believed in; so I did not take up its serious study until my fiancé and I started attending church and studying together.
We married, reared two daughters in Science, and never had a doctor or medicine in our home except when the law required that a doctor be present at the birth of the children. I now have four grandchildren and a great-grandchild, all of whom depend on Christian Science for healing. The families are all church members and church workers.
