I should like to tell of a business...

I should like to tell of a business experience which my husband and I had a few years ago. My husband was restless. First we would go into one business and then into another. We went into the grocery business and did really well. Then we sold out and went into the dairy business and lost nearly everything we had. Finally it seemed that we had no business and no money, and my husband could not get a position of any kind because of his age. Sometimes we did not know if we were going to be able to buy groceries for the week.

I had learned through the study of Christian Science to depend on God's will rather than human will. I kept praying: "God, show me what You want me to do. I am willing, but make it plainer, God." The uncertainty went on for some time, but I kept praying. Our son came home from the service and wanted to go into the grocery business with us; but it was apparently not possible for us to get credit for even a small grocery store.

One day a wholesale house called us and told us of a supermarket that was for sale, but my husband said we could never get enough credit to handle it. As I prayed, the thought kept coming to me that we should go to see it anyway, but my husband said that that would not do any good. About two weeks later there was a small grocery store for sale, and we went to see it. On the way home, we had to go by the supermarket. My husband knew the men and decided to go in and talk to them. So we went in and talked to one of the men. Our son and his wife were with us, but the wife was not a Scientist. She would not go in. She said she did not want to look at something she knew we could never have.
