The Bible tells us "Trust in the...

The Bible tells us: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (Prov 3:5,6). For many years I have been learning to follow this counsel. I was considered a sickly child from birth. In my high school years I started falling down stairs and showing other signs of unsteady balance. An aunt and uncle, students of Christian Science, asked me to look into their religion, and I did but not seriously.

After I married I was ill much of the time. I started having severe spasms and experiencing complete paralysis at times. Each doctor who was called was unable to explain my troubles. I would turn to Christian Science for a while, but always returned to materia medica. After many years of hospitals, therapists, and all types of medical treatment, I went from bad to worse. Finally I spent three and a half years in a wheelchair. My speech and vision were affected, as were my bodily functions. Finally I was told that I had an incurable nervous paralytic condition and would eventually be a bed patient for the rest of my life.

During these years there was a Christian Science practitioner who helped me at times when I was not taking medicine, and she expressed such compassion, love, and understanding that she encouraged me to hold on. One day when I felt I could endure no more she was called and was asked to give me treatment. After three hours I was well enough to get to the telephone and talk to her. This time I continued with Christian Science treatment and made really good progress. After about a year I went to work as a receptionist.
