The Precious Volume
"Desire to share one's blessings is felt ... by all who comprehend even a little of ... Science and Health"
Students of Christian Science sometimes lovingly refer to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" as the precious volume. This appellation was originally conferred by Mrs. Eddy herself. The name appears as the title of a chapter in her book "Retrospection and Introspection." The reader of this chapter readily appreciates the reason why our Leader bestowed this endearing title on the textbook of Christian Science. For instance, we read on page 37 in the above-mentioned chapter, "Even the Scriptures gave no direct interpretation of the scientific basis for demonstrating the spiritual Principle of healing, until our heavenly Father saw fit, through the Key to the Scriptures, in Science and Health, to unlock this 'mystery of godliness.'"
