Some years ago an infection manifested itself on my foot. It looked quite frightening, and well-meaning friends, some of whom were in the medical fraternity, recommended immediate surgery. But having been a student of Christian Science for a number of years, I reached out for spiritual healing. I wondered whether I could meet this challenge, but I decided that I would at least make a strong effort.

The need for deeper study and for purification of thought was seen. I learned that "to infect" can mean to communicate bad qualities to another. But I reasoned that God is the only communicator to man, and therefore only what comes from Him can be communicated to me.

I realized, however, that first I must eradicate the intruding thoughts which had nestled in my consciousness and exchange them for the realization of man's spiritual completeness, perfection, and dominion. I knew that I must and could achieve that purity of thought and that understanding which would rout these stagnating and depressing beliefs and enable me to see and follow divine revelation.
