"The average physician, upon scrutiny of his own patients, will concede that between 50 and 75 percent of them are suffering from minor complaints which he cannot diagnose, or, from psycho-neurosis and manifested by a wide variety of symptoms which may be confused with those of medical disease. There are many diseases such as migraine headaches, asthma, various skin conditions, peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis and high blood pressure, the fundamental basis of which is unknown. Here a stressful personal problem appears often to have precipitated or prolonged some or all of the symptoms.
