When Christian Science was...
When Christian Science was first presented to me I accepted it, because I recognized it to be the truth of God and His creation which I had been searching for. My husband also began the study of Science, and we both started attending a Christian Science church. We enrolled our son, then two and a half years old, in the Sunday School. In the next six months we read all Mrs. Eddy's works, including the textbook, Science and Health, and it was a joy to discover that I could use the truths therein to solve problems in my daily experience. Also during this time our income more than doubled when my husband was led to find better employment.
Then, about a year later, I became very ill quite suddenly with pneumonia. But I had learned enough of Christian Science to trust God; so I requested that a practitioner be asked to help me through prayer, and treatment was begun for me. Since I was unable to hold a book and therefore could not read, she recommended that someone read to me from Science and Health as much as possible.
One night when the thought of passing on was insistent, a sentence from the textbook came to me very clearly. It is (p. 425), "Mortal man will be less mortal, when he learns that matter never sustained existence and can never destroy God, who is man's Life."
