Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer...

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 78): "Spirit blesses man, but man cannot 'tell whence it cometh.' By it the sick are healed, the sorrowing are comforted, and the sinning are reformed." This was proved true to me at a time when I had been suffering from many boils.

One day in 1938 I was talking to a dear friend, who is a Christian Science practitioner and who later became my teacher in Christian Science. At that time I did not know that there was a religion that healed by prayer. I had just had four boils, and I put my hand to my chin and said, "Oh dear, another boil!" My friend took my hand and said a few words which, although I did not realize it at the time, conveyed something of the healing spirit of her religion. I do not remember exactly what she said, but I replied, "Why, that is the truth!" That was the end of the boils.

A few months later another friend invited my husband and me to go to church with her. She knew I had been going to a different church each month. This new church was a Church of Christ, Scientist. I was very grateful for the way the Lord's Prayer was said during the service and for the friendliness expressed to us. I started to attend each Sunday service and the Wednesday evening testimony meetings. No other religion interested me after this.
