Divinity Reaches Humanity
People inquiring about Christian Science and finding that it teaches that God is supersensible Mind, knowing only His own allness and the perfection of His spiritual creation, are sometimes puzzled. They wonder how God can reach and heal humanity if He is not aware of its sins and sicknesses, its shortcomings and weaknesses.
John's explanation of the Christian message should be helpful to such inquirers. He wrote (I John 1:5), "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." Accepting the revelation of God as Truth, we can say that God is Truth, and in Him is no error at all. Mary Baker Eddy says in "No and Yes" (p. 30): "It is Truth's knowledge of its own infinitude which forbids the genuine existence of even a claim to error. This knowledge is light wherein there is no darkness,—not light holding darkness within itself."
The great truth that God is infinite Light does not prevent His asserting His supremacy over every kind of error. Light has spontaneous ascendancy over darkness. God's compassion is well known to those who revere Him and trust His mercy. Deep in the consciousness of every individual is spiritual sense, the sense which unites humanity to divinity, the sense through which the light of Truth can become apparent to mankind.
