Practicing the Lessons

[From a Sunday School superintendent in England]

In establishing the Sunday School, our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, recognized the need for children to be taught that God's law can be utilized and put into practice in their own experience. The fundamental truths which are taught even in the youngest classes show how these teachings can be demonstrated. Demonstration is important, for everyone knows that we do not fully understand any lesson until we have put it into practice.

The teacher directs the thought of his pupils to the premise of all Christian Science teaching, namely the allness of God, the perfection of the real spiritual man in His likeness, and the inseparability of divine Mind, God, and His idea, man. Our Sunday School pupils have an important contribution to make to their church, the neighborhood, and the world. It is never too early to point out to them their responsibility to make use of the spiritual understanding that God is governing every situation and to show them that, by utilizing this knowledge every day, they are helping to rid mankind of false beliefs. Each child can be taught that every time he is obedient, he is being willing to let Love show him the way; that every time a false suggestion is challenged and proved to be unreal, man as the image and likeness of God is becoming more apparent.
