I had the privilege of being...
I had the privilege of being brought up in a home in which all the members studied Christian Science. It brought us much joy and happiness. We were taught, both at home and in a Christian Science Sunday School, to put God first in everything we did. This early training has been invaluable. Whatever illness presented itself when we were children was always quickly overcome through Christian Science treatment with the result that it was never once necessary for me to be absent from school.
Healings had always been accomplished quickly until last year when I became very ill. I do not know what the condition would have been called, but I continued to get worse and could neither hear nor see properly. I had double vision and severe headaches. One day a Christian Science practitioner said to me, "You know, you must have believed that you could be separated from God." That remark immediately alerted me, and I realized that was exactly what I had been thinking. Instead of knowing that man is always in God's love, I had been feeling rejected and very resentful because of someone's unkindness and injustice to me.
From that day, I started to get better, and before long the hearing and the sight were normal too. The practitioner told me to remember that Mrs. Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 206), " 'Good is my God, and my God is good.' "
