After many years of lack of interest...
After many years of lack of interest in matters of religion, I went to a service in an orthodox church merely out of curiosity to see a new church building. During the sermon kindly and unbiased reference was made to Christian Science.
My interest was aroused, and I visited a Church of Christ, Scientist. I heard read from the desk, "One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, 'Love thy neighbor as thyself;' annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry,— whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 340).
This remedy for the social problems of the day was new to me and so awakened my interest that I wanted to know more of Christian Science. I continued to attend the church services, purchased the textbook, and subscribed for the Sentinel.
