Activities for the Armed Services

Servicemen in peacetime frequently attend special schools to gain skills which will enable them to do better work or to advance to higher rank.

"When I put God first, I found my answer," was the way a marine corporal expressed his gratitude for help given by a Christian Science Minister for the Armed Services. The corporal needed to maintain a 90 percent average in order to qualify for another school which he desired to attend. Near the end of his course his average was below that required, and he saw no way of improving it in time. The Minister helped him realize that man is the child of God, of omnipotent Mind, and expresses infinite intelligence. Thus the young corporal saw that he could claim all the intelligence he needed and that he was not restricted by a limited capacity to learn. He saw too that he was never separated from the opportunity to achieve good.

The corporal admitted that in the past he had studied the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly faithfully each day but that lately he had neglected this study, since he thought there was insufficient time because of school. When this thought was corrected, he found that not only did he have time to study the Lesson-Sermon, but he was getting more from classroom discussions and evening reviews. On final examinations he received three 100 percent grades and stood well above the required average.
