By the study and application of Christian Science in my life, I have found that despair has given place to hope, bitterness and disappointment to happiness and contentment, and ill health to good health. Doubt of the goodness of God has been replaced by the understanding that God is good. This was not accomplished overnight, and there have been many severe testing times which I was able to come through by holding steadfastly to Truth.

I was healed of the smoking habit almost immediately after taking up the earnest study of Christian Science. It took a little time to gain freedom from the habit of social drinking, because I was unable to see the harm in an occasional social drink. However, it finally came to me that there can be no compromise with error, and the desire for alcoholic drinks simply vanished.

Another healing gives me much cause for gratitude. My husband and I were on an automobile trip. We had stopped for the night, and early the next morning, when we were leaving, the car door was shut tightly on two of my fingers. I cried out in pain, but immediately the thought came to me, "God is present."
