I am grateful for the many healings...

I am grateful for the many healings my family has had through the application of Christian Science. The outstanding healing, for which I feel words cannot express enough gratitude, was that of my granddaughter, then fifteen months old, of a hernia. The baby's mother, who is not a member of a Christian Science church, was told by the doctor that when the child was two, she must be taken to a hospital for surgery.

I did prayerful work to remove the mother's fears. I explained that she would be swept along with the tide of matter, catching first on one material snag and then on another until she would ultimately have to take her stand for God, Spirit. I cited over and over to her that "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him" (Gen. 1:27) and that all men are included in that creation of God, good, the only creation.

I drew her attention also to Mrs. Eddy's words on pages 476 and 477 of Science and Health: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick." I recommended that each time she thought of her baby, she acknowledge only this perfect man instead of the misconception of man as mortal and liable to sickness.
