RADIO PROGRAM No. 3 - Easter and the Bomb

HOST: At this season in homes and churches around the world Christians are observing Easter. By tradition it's a day of gladness. But for many people, children and adults alike, the joy of Easter is clouded by fear, fear that the bomb will wipe out everything we cherish.

Recently Newsweek Magazine reported that "in the wake of the great debate on shelters, testing, and survival," there was "evidence that these life-and-death issues had indeed reached the minds and hearts of many children." The magazine told of a teacher showing "a dozen brilliantly colored versions of mushroom clouds, flaming cities, running children," painted by her pupils. The teacher said, "We are having an awful lot of trouble getting them to paint a clear sky."

Perhaps you've found yourself asking, "Does Easter still have meaning in this kind of world, or has the bomb made obsolete the promise that Easter stands for?" So we're going to discuss this question: Can we find a practical meaning for Easter in view of the threat of total annihilation?
