On pages 152 and 153 of "Miscellaneous Writings" our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes, "Exercise more faith in God and His spiritual means and methods, than in man and his material ways and means, of establishing the Cause of Christian Science." The spiritual understanding of the members of a branch church, and their practical application of this understanding, determine the progress of the church and its usefulness to the community.

One church writes: "After building and dedicating a fine church edifice, we settled down to bask in its beauty and to enjoy the services. There was ample room for the few Sunday School students, and we were happy with our progress. After going along in this fashion for some time, however, we suddenly realized we were not progressing. Members were assigned to study the needs of all departments and to work prayerfully for 'Church.' Before long good fruitage was realized from this effort. New faces began to appear in church, and the Sunday School enrollment increased. Additional literature was taken from distribution boxes placed in establishments in the city."

Another branch states: "This year has been one of unusual accomplishment for the church members in that through a renewed and earnest desire to work for the Cause of Christian Science on the part of all, an inspired sense of unity and love has been established with results that did not before appear to be possible."
