Several years after I was married...

Several years after I was married a friend who was a Christian Scientist asked me to look into her religion, and she lent me the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Glancing through it now and then and reading a sentence here and there, I became convinced that I was not interested. Frequently my friend asked me how I was progressing with the book, and I told her I had not read much.

About a year later, while my husband and I were driving, I was accidentally thrown to one side of the car, and a vertebra at the top of my spine was injured. Many times when I turned my head, it became temporarily fixed in one position, causing me great pain. For weeks I had chiropractic treatments with no result until, through sheer exhaustion, I stopped taking them for a while, expecting to take more later on.

I was also suffering from migraine, for which I had had medical treatment. Finally one day, after giving up the chiropractic treatments and thinking it was time to look into Christian Science to please my friend, but with no thought of help from that source, I decided I should be kind enough to read the textbook.
