Even though I had a loving family life, I was still lonely and self-conscious and suffering from a chronic bladder condition which had prevented me from joyfully doing anything away from home and which materia medica did not help and Christian Science treatment had till then only alleviated. I never attended a Christian Science Sunday School, but my mother taught me what she knew of Science; however, I did not appreciate it at the time.

I had been married several years and had a young daughter when I began to suffer periodically from tonsillitis. Upon my mother's request I turned to Science for help. When she visited me during one of these sieges, she encouraged me to stand up and say the illness was a lie. After she left I did that and was amazed at the result: the fever and sore throat left, never to return, and with such suddenness that I knew God, Truth, had healed me.

From that time on, I studied the Bible, together with Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, attended church services spasmodically, stopped using medicine for our daughter and myself, and talked with my husband about the truths I was learning.
