Church Dedications

Oroville, Washington (Society).

Christian Science Society, Oroville, Washington, will dedicate its church edifice at Fir and Central Avenue on Sunday, June 3, according to an announcement of the church's executive board. Two services will be held, the first at 11 a.m. and the second at 3 p.m.

The history of the Oroville Christian Science church dates back to . . . 1940 when regular meetings were held in a large front room of [a private] residence. On March 10, 1949, a society was properly organized and was recognized by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, April 21, 1949.

The growing need for a Sunday School room . . brought about a move to the American Legion building. During this period three lots were purchased and later sold when the Free Methodist Church building was offered for sale in February, 1958.

Terms were agreed upon and the first payment was made June 30, 1958. The society occupied the edifice in July, 1958. A Reading Room and a Sunday School have been established at the same location. All debts were paid in August, 1959. Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free of debt.— Oroville Gazette (May 31, 1962).

Hamilton, New Zealand (Society).

Christian Science Society, Hamilton, will dedicate its church edifice at 249 Grey Street, Hamilton East, on Sunday, July 15. Two services, to which the public is invited, will be held at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

A group of Christian Scientists met and held services until 1931 when the group was recognised by The Mother Church as Christian Science Society, Hamilton.

In 1957, a property was purchased at 249 Grey Street, Hamilton East, and the structure was remodelled as a church.

The dedication is made possible by contributions from members and friends and a grant from the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy. Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.—The Waikato Times (July 12, 1962).
