Since my first testimony appeared...

Since my first testimony appeared in the Sentinel in 1951, I have had much cause for further gratitude to God, revealed as our Father-Mother, by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in her great and all-encompassing discovery, Christian Science.

During my service career in the Royal Navy, my wife and I have had wonderful experiences in finding homes through acknowledging man's true dwelling place to be the divine consciousness, Mind, and therefore necessarily at hand. Also, an understanding to a degree of the relationship between church and home has borne fruit.

When I resigned from membership in a large London branch church because I was posted overseas, it seemed at first that I was going to be deprived of church work for a period. However, I was to find even greater activity in a small branch church in the Far East, where, in addition, I made many new friends. Later, when serving in a ship based in the Mediterranean, the opportunity unfolded to assist an informal group of Christian Scientists in Malta in starting public services.

I am particularly grateful for a recent healing of a thumb condition. Eight years ago the nail became detached except at the root, and though it continued to grow after a fashion it cracked easily and was continually catching on things. At different times help was given me by a practitioner; however, the condition was painless, and I did not really get down to seeing it as only an aggressive mental suggestion, which was in reality no part of my real, God-governed identity. Also, I often found myself examining the nail.

Then I attended a film presentation of several Christian Science television programs. The film enabled Scientists in this country to see examples of the programs, since they are not telecast here. In several instances of healing in the film great emphasis was placed on the importance of putting error behind one, and one does so not by ignoring it but by resolutely refusing to look at false evidence and by denouncing it as merely a counterfeit suggestion concerning an ever-present, harmonious fact.

Alerted by these pointers to the correct approach, and heartened by the healing results described, I made a special effort to refuse to examine the unreliable evidence which had been presenting itself to me for so long. Also, I strove to hold more closely to the true facts revealed by spiritual sense.

From that time, the nail no longer caught on things as I used the hand, and an occasional passing glance revealed that the healing was taking place. Finally all was back to normal, and the nail was as firm and strong as that on the other hand, and I felt that I had proved the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 101), "He who turns to the body for evidence, bases his conclusions on mortality, on imperfection; but Science saith to man, 'God hath all-power.'"

I do not want to let pass this opportunity of expressing my deep gratitude for Christ Jesus, for the untiring and loving support of our practitioners and for all that goes with church membership in the Christian Science movement. In these times of great change, what a blessing it is to become aware of all the good that is being offered to mankind through our movement!—Brian H. A. Seeley, London, England.
