"As one whom his mother comforteth"
"The child of God ... is maintained in his original perfection by Mind"
Compassion, tenderness, gentleness, steadfastness—all these qualities are derived from God, who is Love. They are manifested in human experience in varying degrees proportionately to one's understanding that man is the expression of Love. Nevertheless, according to Christian Science, the presence of a certain person, however comforting, is not necessary if one is to feel or see the activity of the qualities of our Father-Mother, Love. The less we believe that a particular human presence is necessary for the qualities of Love to be felt, the more clearly and powerfully they come into view.
