Trusting God, Truth

"Right knowing evidences the operation of the christ and restores harmony"

The student of Christian Science is learning to identify his true selfhood as the emanation of God, Spirit. His increasing understanding of the truths of God and of man causes him to have absolute trust in God, Truth and to know that His law holds man in perfect health and tireless activity. In the measure that one knows and accepts his spiritual individuality, he can reject the falsity of matter beliefs and manifest the strength, intelligence, and harmony which constitute his real being.

It is most important that we learn all we can of God and of man's inseparable relationship to Him, as Father and son, Mind and idea, cause and effect. Through this divine knowledge we can put aside material sense, with its likes and dislikes, its selfishness and fears, and have full trust in God, Truth, who is ever supporting, sustaining, and maintaining His child. As we understand man's eternal unity with God, we can know that evil is unreal and powerless, and our trust in Truth will protect and deliver us from every discordant condition.

Jesus said, "I can of mine own self do nothing" (John 5:30). He knew that all things are possible to the one who realizes that God is the source of all goodness and right activity. He knew that as men put off the false sense of personal achievement, with its feelings of importance and vanity, they will find that progress and harmony are the natural outcome of obedience and trust in the law of God, Truth.

Since God, Mind, Truth, fills all space and is therefore ever present in all its perfection and purity, that which seems an erroneous condition is but a false belief, a belief in a mind apart from God. Therefore the Christian Scientist need never have any fear. Through unswerving trust in Truth, and the realization of the divine presence, we can demonstrate the truth stated by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health(p. 475), "To Truth there is no error,—all is Truth."

The sincere Christian Scientist never believes in any power other than Truth. All health, joy, love, and substance are expressions of Truth. Because man is an individualized expression of the one Mind, God, he exists always at the standpoint of perfection. In reality there is no mortal mind manifesting itself as matter.

Material consciousness and its feelings have never been true and are no part of God's creation. Nothing can ever cause matter to have intelligence or strength. God, Truth, is the only Life; and as we realize this scientific fact for ourselves and for all others, we shall be released from the penalties error seems to impose, and we shall find healing and happiness.

Through the abandonment of material sense and through complete reliance on Truth, we can go forward with confidence. To those burdened with sin, sickness, or lack, Mrs. Eddy points out that there is but one way by which they can be healed. She says on page 167 of Science and Health, "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." This is a statement of loving assurance to those in need.

God, Truth, has never ordained medical laws, drugs, appliances, or material diagnosis for the healing of disease. The Christian Scientist applies his understanding of Truth to every inharmonious situation. Through applying the truths we know, and having full trust in the statements we employ, we find that the power of Truth is present and heals the discordant condition.

Healing is the natural result of utilizing our present understanding of God, Truth, and of man's relationship to Him. Let us never doubt for a moment Truth's supremacy over all error. God, Truth, is ever present and is always loving man, and each of His children is known by Him and needed by Him. Our blessings increase and multiply as we trustingly accept Truth's government.

In the midst of today's doubts and fears it is necessary to trust in Truth, for thereby we have a basis for rejecting all that is unlike good. As we rely on Truth, we realize God's omnipotence and the nothingness of matter. This right knowing evidences the operation of the Christ and restores harmony to all who utilize it.

The Christ has always been present and is ever available. It helps us just where we are. Our Leader writes on page 118 of Science and Health: "Ages pass, but this leaven of Truth is ever at work. It must destroy the entire mass of error, and so be eternally glorified in man's spiritual freedom." Our ability to demonstrate the healing and regenerating power of Truth is in exact proportion to our disbelief of life in matter and our understanding and trust in spiritual law.

Constant trust in God, Truth, is necessary if we are to be guided aright. Centuries ago Moses said to the children of Israel when they were fearful of the dangers besetting their path (Ex. 14:13), "Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day." Those words of Moses are still applicable today, for as the Israelites heeded them and gained freedom from bondage, so we can prove that evil has no power to obstruct or interfere with those who trustingly accept the government of God, Truth.

The leading example of radical reliance on God, Truth, is Christ Jesus. In the midst of enemies and unbelievers, he proved by his acknowledgment of God as the only presence and power and of man as the emanation of Mind, Life, Truth, and Love that all the discordant conditions of mankind can be healed. As we also become aware of God's ever-presence and all-power, we shall find, in the measure of our trust and sincerity, that our lives will manifest God's perfection, health, abundance, and love.

Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me. I have made the earth, and created man upo it. . . . I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways. — Isaiah 45:11-13.
