Obedience to Whom?

When we acknowledge God as Father, understand His loving guidance, trust His infinite wisdom, and follow in childlike humility His unerring direction, we show our willingness to live as a child of God. The result of that willingness is the demonstration of the power of divine Truth, Life, and Love in human experience. Joy, health, harmony, completeness, are realized. Dominion is attained.

But clear warning is given in the thirteenth chapter of I kings where we read that a man of God whose prayers had restored King Jeroboam's withered hand was invited to come to the king's home and refresh himself and receive a reward. But he refused with the words, "For so was it charged me by the word of the Lord, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest" (verse 9).

Later when the man of God was invited by an old prophet to come to his house and eat with him he refused again, repeating the words of the Lord's command. But this time the old prophet deceived him. He argued that an angel of the Lord had said to him, "Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water." So the man of God consented. When he resumed his journey, "a lion met him by the way, and slew him."
