Christian Science has been a...

Christian Science has been a firm foundation upon which I have always stood. It has met all my needs, physically and otherwise.

Once of the first demonstrations of its efficacy that I remember having made by myself was in regard to the selection of a college. I received many catalogues, but through the whole experience I prayed as we are taught to pray in the Lord's Prayer, "Thy will be done" (Matt. 6:10). Mortal mind kept telling me that there was one college I did not want to attend and gave me some good reasons why I did not. However, after much prayer, I realized that this college was where I belonged, and the decision to attend it was joyously made. My four years of attendance there were overflowing with good. I have always been grateful that I listened to divine Mind for guidance.

In the first few years of marriage to a Christian Scientist, I spent many months living alone while he was in the Navy. I was always shown God's loving care during these times, and I am grateful for the opportunity to rely solely on Him.

One experience that occurred during one of my husband's absences concerned the baby I was expecting. During the sixth month of pregnancy, it seemed as if the child would be born prematurely. I had been praying constantly for this little one and frequently consulted a practitioner. We prayed more earnestly than ever at this time, knowing that God is eternal Life and that every spiritual idea is held forever in God, divine Mind.

Under the marginal heading "Scientific obstetrics," the paragraph on page 463 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy contains powerful truths which supported me in my prayers. We read there: "The new idea, conceived and born of Truth and Love, is clad in white garments. Its beginning will be meek, its growth sturdy, and its maturity undecaying."

As the practitioner and I expected, our prayers bore good fruit. All the symptoms subsided, and three months later the baby was born normally. My husband and I have been grateful for this demonstration ever since and for the very loving help of friends and of my sister during this time of need.

As our family has grown, there have been many healings. Some have been those of colds, an upset stomach, earache, colic, influenza, and fever. The number of colds occurring in the family has been drastically reduced, and the overcoming of various fears has meant a great deal to me.

Fear of contagion was overcome when I realized that the childlike qualities of innocence and purity do not make one vulnerable to error's attacks, but are in reality mankind's protection, because they are the evidence of Immanuel, or "God with us." One of our children was healed of a fever through this realization.

We are also very grateful for Love's care and guidance when we needed to make a change of residence. My husband found employment which fulfilled his every desire, and we sold our house in a distant community and moved to our present one. We were greatly helped by Mrs. Eddy's spiritual interpretation of the last part of the twenty-third Psalm, which reads (Science and Health, p. 578), "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house [the consciousness] of [LOVE] for ever."

The practitioner pointed out that the conveyance of that consciousness is eternal, and what one needs is already accomplished in Mind. We made a relatively quick sale of our house and found a new one with ease.

For the blessings of having been reared in Christian Science, for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for the privileges of having taught in the Sunday School and having had class instruction, I am deeply grateful. — (Mrs.) Martha C. Kennedy, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
