God Is Basic Principle
There is one basic Principle, and that is God, good. Therefore there is only one basic Science, and that is the law of Truth emanating from Principle, taught and practiced by Christ Jesus, and presented to the world today in Christian Science. True Science is based entirely upon God. It has no precept which is inconsistent with Spirit, Life, Truth, and Love. Any so-called science which rests either on matter or on mortal theories is not founded on basic Principle and hence is not basic Science.
A tree is known by its fruits. This truth is applicable to Science. The healing, saving, harmonizing fruits of divine Science classify it as genuine or basic. Mary Baker Eddy states in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 348), "Divine Life, Truth, Love is the basic Principle of all Science, it solves the problem of being; and nothing that worketh ill can enter into the solution of God's problems."
God is the starting point, or beginning, of all being. To mortal sense, beginning may indicate a particular time according to a stellar or solar clock. But reason and Science make it clear that Principle could never have been nonexistent. Principle or Truth is true forever. It does not depend upon matter, human beings, or human organization for its existence. Principle, Truth, God, never began.
