When a hip condition that I first experienced in my boyhood returned and developed into an atrophy of the leg, I turned in earnest to Christian Science.

One evening after supper my family decided that I should consult either a doctor or a Christian Science practitioner; that I should not let the condition go from bad to worse.

I had been attending a Christian Science church for many years but had not become a member. However, I now decided to take my stand and place my problem in God's hands. This was done with some misgiving because the condition appeared so real. I visited several practitioners and gained some benefit from each one. However, I was still smoking and indulging in social drinking; I had been doing both for over thirty years. I was trying to depend on both matter and Spirit. Also I was expecting an instantaneous healing such as that received by the lame man who was healed by Peter and John. The Bible tells us (Acts 3:7) that "immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength."
