"God spake all these words"

[Of Special Interest to Children]

The boys and girls in Janet's class in the Christian Science Sunday School were delighted! She had just recited the Ten Commandments without hesitating once or missing a word! "Suppose Moses had left out a word or written a wrong one when God gave them to him for us!" she said. "I love every word of the Commandments, because God spoke them."

"And God spake all these words, saying," the class exclaimed in unison. This is the first verse of Exodus 20. It was a favorite verse of the children, because it introduces the Ten Commandments.

Then each member of the class decided to memorize every word of the Ten Commandments. This resolve pleased the teacher, but she asked them to think of something else they should be sure to do. She reminded them of David's refusal to put on the king's armor on the grounds that he had not proved it. This story is found in the seventeenth chapter of I Samuel. "But David had proved his sling," she reminded them, "so he used it to slay Goliath, who threatened the safety of David's people." She also reminded them that Jesus proved the truth of the First Commandment in all his healings.
