When I was a boy I crushed some of my fingers badly. A Christian Science practitioner was called, and her prayerful work was helpful in bringing about immediate relief. This rapid healing was the first of many proofs of the efficacy of the truths of Christian Science revealed by Mrs. Eddy which I have experienced.

In spite of the early evidence I had had of the healing power of Christian Science, I drifted away from it for extended periods several times. But I always returned to Science, if for only brief periods, recognizing it as my way of salvation. At times I turned to other denominations. However, they were not able to free me from the discords with which my life was filled.

One evening during a bleak time when things appeared so dark that I was considering taking my life, I noticed my copies of the Bible and of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy in the bookcase where someone had placed them only a few days before, after they had been packed away untouched for many years. Later, I remembered Christ Jesus' statement (Matt. 6:8), "Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him." With a deep sense of relief and anticipation of good, I began to read. I continued for several hours until the realization came that there is indeed hope for all who trust in God. That was the turning point!
