Whatever the problem may...
Whatever the problem may be, we can, through spiritual understanding, bring about a successful solution. In thankfulness for all the blessings that Christian Science has brought into my experience, I wish to share this testimony.
For over ten years I suffered from severe backache. There was seldom a day free from pain. Then came a time when I wanted to paint a fence, but I hesitated to do so because of the pain which I was sure would follow. I called a Christian Science practitioner, who asked me if I was going to allow the painting of a fence to keep me out of the enjoyment of the kingdom of heaven. I was counseled to accept with joy any task I had to perform and to welcome this one as another opportunity to express man's God-given dominion. The practitioner asked me to meet the challenge of mortal mind with the knowledge that God is ever present and that man in His image and likeness is always perfect and joyful.
Painting that day was a great joy. I sang hymns and declared time and again man's unity with God as His reflection. I knew that the false suggestion of a possible painful reaction had no past, no present, no future, for God's goodness and mercy are new each day. I held to the idea of perfect God and perfect man. Our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 161), "He who gains self-knowledge, self-control, and the kingdom of heaven within himself, within his own consciousness, is saved through Christ. Truth."
