A few years ago my wife and I were involved in a serious accident which wrecked two automobiles. The cars crashed with such force that we were thrown to the highway. By the time we had regained consciousness, several minutes later, a large crowd had gathered. We were some distance apart, but we found afterward that with our first words we had both asked for the aid of a Christian Science practitioner.

The two of us were taken to the emergency room of a hospital in a nearby city. The condition of both of us was listed as serious. But our understanding of the allness of God and our faith in His healing power were not shaken by what others were saying about our chances to survive. We both clung steadfastly to the truth expressed by Mrs. Eddy (Science and Health, pp. 380, 381), "Every law of matter or the body, supposed to govern man, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God." As soon as she was able to do so, my wife telephoned a practitioner in a distant city and asked her to give us Christian Science treatment. Right away we felt the effect of her prayers.

We had suffered loss of blood, broken bones, internal injuries, extreme shock, and several cuts and bruises, but our thinking throughout the experience, with the support of the practitioner, was sure, calm, and absolutely unwavering. All medical treatment was refused, and papers were signed exonerating the hospital from any responsibility for the complications they felt were certain to be fatal.
