One morning about two years...

One morning about two years ago I arose early, and while dressing I suddenly became out of breath and felt myself losing consciousness. Instantly I began to declare aloud "the scientific statement of being," which is to be found on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I knew, as it says: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."

In a few minutes I was able to call a Christian Science practitioner, who confidently explained to me that since God made man in His image and likeness, man cannot manifest any inharmonious condition and that since God is the only cause, there can be no effect from anything else.

The practitioner continued to help me for the next two weeks, during which time I was confined to my apartment. While at home I spent hours every day studying the writings of our Leader and reading the Christian Science periodicals. As I studied I was comforted and encouraged by the knowledge that man's life is spiritual, the reflection of the one Life, God; therefore man's true existence is not dependent on a human heart and cannot be affected by its action or inaction.
