"I will not fear"

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear," declares John in his first Epistle (4:18). Since, according to the teaching of Christian Science, fear is one of the major causes of disease and other discords, it is well to consider its fallacy and to understand its antidote, divine Love.

The foundation of fear is the false belief that man originated materially, is material, and that therefore he can suffer the consequences of materiality. These errors have been drilled into our thoughts so consistently in the past that they have well-nigh become solid conviction in human thought. But, in Science, they are false.

God, Spirit, made man; but He did not make him of the dust of the ground, as the allegorical account in the second chapter of Genesis would have us believe. God made man in the only way He could have made him—to reflect His substance. Man, then, is exclusively spiritual and not material. Since man is spiritual, there is no materiality in his identity or in his infinite environment. Man dwells in Love, God. His home is heaven. He is not associated with fearsome circumstances, because he is not associated with or constituted of matter.
