In the year 1900 my mother began studying the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and placed my sister and me in the Christian Science Sunday School. I shall never cease to be grateful for this early training which taught me to rely upon Christian Science to meet every need. When I was five years old I was healed of deafness, and when I was ten years old I was healed of abscesses in my ears.

In the first four years of my schooling I was vaccinated five times, each time, however, without the vaccination's taking effect. At these times I was protected through the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner. The last time I was given a double dose of vaccine with the assurance that I would be permitted to remain in school even if it did not take, It did not.

While I was still in the Sunday School I had instantaneous healings of a sprained ankle, scarlet fever, warts, and goiter. One morning during a scarlet fever epidemic I awoke with the symptoms of that condition, I had not been in contact with anyone suffering from it, but I had been obliged to listen day after day to descriptions of it, and I resented this. As I lay there doing my prayerful metaphysical work, I realized that through my resentment I had accepted the disease as real. The uncovering of the error brought about the healing, and I arose and dressed.
