The Bible's Redemptive Purpose
The Bible increases in value as we grasp the spiritual messages it conveys, messages that are emanations of God, divine Mind. Timeless in nature and unchanging in purpose, these messages are for every age, belong to all people, and are applicable to all human problems.
Spiritual seers, men of spiritual insight, inner spiritual vision, received these messages of God, which we find recorded in the Bible. The same insight is required today to grasp the inner language of the Bible, "the hidden wisdom" that Paul spoke of in his first letter to the Corinthians (2:7), the wisdom "which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual."
The first tenet of Christian Science reads, "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy, p. 497), and this tenet corresponds with the declaration of the Master (John 17: 3), "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."
