During the twenty years that I...
During the twenty years that I have been an adherent of Christian Science, I have been freed from main kinds of error. Ill, irascible, resentful, offended at trifles, inconsiderate, thoughtless, unkind to and critical of those nearest me, I was often at odds with my fellow men. I was a bundle of nerves and led a life that to me, and probably to others, did not seem worth living.
At the slightest provocation I swore, and yet in my inmost being I felt the need of a religion which could bring me nearer to God. To be sure, I still attended the church to which I belonged and often consulted my pastor, but neither gave me anything helpful. On the contrary, my condition grew worse until the doctors who had tried over a period of twenty-five years to heal me of a serious stomach ailment said my case was hopeless.
When the need was greatest, through divine Love, a copy of The Herald of Christian Science (German Edition) was placed in my hands. My son gave it to me, saying: "Father, if you can believe what is stated here, I am convinced that you will get well again."
