What Are You Going to Be?

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

In explanation of God's allness, Mrs. Eddy writes in "Unity of Good" (p. 3), "He is all the Life and Mind there is or can be." And several lines farther on she makes these comforting statements: "Now this self-same God is our helper. He pities us. He has mercy upon us, and guides every event of our careers."

The Bible teaches that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Since God is infinite Spirit, man, in the likeness of God, must be spiritual, and his occupation must be spiritual also.

Looked at from this standpoint, our careers consist of the progressive, individual expression of ideas and the development of spiritual qualities, of seeing as God causes us to see, of thinking Godlike thoughts, and of working in the way God works. One young student of Christian Science caught a glimpse of this truth a number of years ago when she was faced with what seemed a difficult choice between two careers. A great deal of duplication of work seemed inevitable during a six months' period of preparation for a competitive examination, and the possibility that she might fail through attempting too much suggested itself repeatedly.
