Some years ago what I had considered a happy home and companionship were swept away, leaving me bewildered and brokenhearted. At this moment of great need, Christian Science with its tender healing message came to me. A friend asked me one day to accompany her to a practitioner's office where she had an appointment. I knew nothing of Christian Science, but I was glad to go with her and to wait for her as she talked with the practitioner.

When my friend's interview was finished, they both came into the waiting room. After a few words with the practitioner, I found myself sitting at her desk pouring out my whole heavy heart. I do not remember what she told me in those few moments, but I knew when I walked out that I had seen a great light, as Isaiah so beautifully expressed it (9:2): "The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined." I knew that I had found something fundamental to my being.

I went to a Christian Science Reading Room and bought copies of the Bible and of all Mary Baker Eddy's writings and began to study. I was like a starved person; I could not seem to satisfy my hunger for this wonderful truth. Many precious hours were spent in Reading Rooms and at home in joyous, satisfying study.
