In the early 1920's I became...

In the early 1920's I became interested in Christian Science through my association in business with two Christian Scientists, one of whom later became my wife.

My parents were members of an orthodox church, and I was brought up from an early age to attend chapel and Sunday School regularly. This training was a good influence in my youth and early manhood, and I shall always be grateful for it. But during this period I did not join a church or take an active part in religion.

I began to study Christian Science after one of my two business associates, mentioned above, mailed a copy of The Christian Science Monitor for several weeks to a fellow employee temporarily working at an isolated camp. A man who returned from the camp reported that the Monitors were being thrown unopened into the stove as religious propaganda. Undisturbed, my friend mailed afterward to the co-worker a local newspaper in place of the Monitor. This turning of the other cheek impressed me so much that I felt Christian Science must be real Christianity.
