Because I have been blessed in so many ways through Christian Science, I should like to add to my testimony that was printed in the journal about twenty-five years ago.

Shortly thereafter a testing time came when an internal goiter did not readily yield to Christian Science treatment. The suggestion of the need of surgery seemed strong and continued to persist. I had been trained as a medical nurse and had served in this capacity for a number of years. Finally I submitted to an operation. However, it did not remedy the condition. In fact, I suffered more than before the operation. Added to this was great self-condemnation, which made me unhappy because I had turned away from the teachings of Christian Science.

The result of this surgery proved to me the utter futility and uselessness of any material remedy. Thereafter I really cleared the medical thinking out of my consciousness. During this time two passages were a bulwark to me. One which is found on page 14 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy states: "Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth. This understanding casts out error and heals the sick, and with it you can speak 'as one having authority.'"
