RADIO PROGRAM No. 368 - Some Key Points of Spiritual Healing

John M. Burns

SPEAKER: There's been widespread interest in recent years in spiritual healing. On our program today we're going to explain something of spiritual healing as it's understood in Christian Science. We'd like you to hear a firsthand example: an experience of John M. Burns, of New York City.

MR. BURNS: The situation was this. I was in bed with an infected foot. It was very painful and greatly enlarged. The swelling had spread up through the ankle. In fact, it was so bad I had to keep my leg on a horizontal level to get any comfort at all. I'd gone on a picnic at the beach, and that's when the foot became sore and started to swell. I remember taking my shoe off because I couldn't wear it. And then the next day I couldn't even get out of bed.

I was living in a men's club, and since I had to have my meals served in my room, it became generally known that I was ill. My friends began to worry about my condition, and some expressed fear that serious consequences might result if I didn't consult a surgeon. But for some years as a student of Christian Science I had experienced many healings and blessings through spiritual means alone. So I didn't hesitate to rely completely on the healing power of God and I was doing my best to heal the problem through depending on God.
