BEYOND THE SYMBOLS
Love
etched a trillium in fragile white
against the deepness of old winter's gray.
In wordless eloquence it showed the way
of brooding tenderness in Spirit's might.
Love scattered quiet stars across the night
and poured sun's golden silence over day.
A robin rested on my tree to say,
in his own fashion. "Love is Life and light."
Beyond pale candle ray and hearth-fire's glow
and flashing beacon stands the steadfast sun.
Full summer waits beyond spring's pallid flower.
Striving to know God's allness we outgrow
our cherished signs and symbols, one by one,
to live at last in Love's eternal hour.
