During an influenza epidemic...

During an influenza epidemic many years ago I was seriously stricken. At that time I was a fairly new student of Christian Science and did not have enough confidence to treat myself. A practitioner came to my home and sat by my bed praying almost all night. Although it appeared that I might pass on, the practitioner later said that he never for a moment doubted the outcome. As I remember it, I was entirely normal within two days.

For some time I had been suffering from a fibroid tumor. It became evident that I needed to progress more rapidly in my knowledge of God's law; so again a practitioner was sought out. Practically nothing was said about the physical condition after the first visit. Always God's laws were discussed in a positive way, with constant references to the Bible and to Mrs. Eddy's writings. Almost at once all pain ceased, and at the end of four months, when I was at home, the tumor was painlessly eliminated.

Some months later, when I was examined for employment reasons, the remark was made that there had been excellent surgery for a tumor and that the tissue was healthy. This healing impressed me deeply and caused a caused a great impetus in my spiritual growth. Thereafter I more readily accepted the good and more determinedly rejected the spurious.
