THE HIGHER MISSION OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

The main purpose of Christianity has always been the destruction of sin. And this purpose has not changed with the discovery of Christian Science, which reveals that Christianity is Science and that its demonstration as Science is true worship.

On page 150 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy mentions the earlier demonstrations of Science during the time of the Master, Christ Jesus. And she says, "Now, as then, signs and wonders are wrought in the metaphysical healing of physical disease; but these signs are only to demonstrate its divine origin,—to attest the reality of the higher mission of the Christ-power to take away the sins of the world."

According to the teachings of Jesus and of Christian Science, sin is a supposition; the Master said there is no truth in it, and Science declares sin to be a lie, an illusion, nothingness. But for humanity to prove these declarations, it must be understood that sin is not person, but the unreal, material sense of life, the sense which claims to usurp God's place by asserting a mortal mind opposed to immortal, divine Mind. Sin is the element that makes material sense mortal, for sin is like fire, which includes within itself the means of destruction.
