WHAT IS THE PICTURE?
Through the study and application of Christian Science we gain the spiritual understanding which enables us to see the unreality of the material scene and the reality of God's perfect creation. Christ Jesus said of the multitudes who came to hear him (Matt. 13:13), "They seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand."
Material sense classifies mortals as good, bad, or indifferent, as friends or sometimes as enemies, as experiencing good material conditions or bad material conditions. Spiritual understanding, on the other hand, sees what is invisible to material sense, namely God and His idea, spiritual man, always perfect and harmonious.
When the material picture pleases us, we are apt to feel that all is well and that conditions are normal. When the picture changes and is displeasing and troublesome, we rightly conclude that we should endeavor to do something about it to bring it back to what we call normal.
