In gratitude for divine help in...
In gratitude for divine help in my hour of need, I wish to give this testimony to glorify God for my complete recovery from an experience in which it appeared that I had passed on.
One evening a few years ago I suddenly fell to the floor unconscious. My wife and my son were in another room, and when they heard me fall they came quickly to see what had happened. My wife told my son to call a Christian Science practitioner.
The practitioner arrived in about half an hour. Later I was carried to my room and put to bed. The practitioner told me afterwards that to all appearances my body was lifeless. She worked prayerfully for hours before there was any sign of life. Finally I began to breathe again. I do not know what the difficulty would have been called. Previous to this strange experience I had been in good health, and I had no pain or warning of an attack of any kind.
Early the next morning my son came to my room and said, "Are you all right, Dad?"
Knowing nothing of what had occurred the evening before, I was somewhat surprised and replied, "Certainly I am all right." Later, when it was daylight, I got up, shaved, and bathed. I felt somewhat shaken up, but experienced no other ill effects.
When my son told me about the experience I could scarcely believe what I heard, but later I called the practitioner, who confirmed all that my son had told me. She said, "You were restored to life."
I feel impelled to give this testimony so that it may help someone else. Many times I have been uplifted by the convincing experiences of others which have been given in the Christian Science periodicals. It is evident to me that we live in the realm of Mind, and the deathless reality of eternal Life is much clearer to me now. I am grateful for this healing and for the joy of having served in a branch church for many years.
In words and deeds I wish to show my gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for the physical healings and for the mental regeneration I have gained through Christian Science. I rejoice that I am able to help others through an understanding of God's impartial love. Christian Science has been a great comfort to me in times of trouble and a consolation at the passing of loved ones. In sincerity and humility I offer my thanks to God.—William David Johnston, Pasadena, California.
