I should like to express my gratitude...

I should like to express my gratitude for Christian Science, the glorious religion which identifies man as the reflection of God, or good. When I was a child, my father was away on business a great deal of the time, leaving my mother to raise three children. She depended entirely on Christian Science, not only for the healing of illnesses and other difficulties, but for the protection of my two sisters and me. I distinctly recall a healing of mastoiditis which one sister had while we lived in a small town where there was quite a bit of opposition to Christian Science.

Later we moved to a place where a Christian Science Sunday School could be attended. One day while I was studying the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly entitled "Mind," it came to me clearly that God is the only Mind and that the real man is included in that Mind. Then I realized what Jesus meant when he said (John 5:30), "I can of mine own self do nothing." From then on I began to understand more of what the statements I read in Science and Health meant, This showed me the importance of the Christian Science Sunday School and of the daily study of our Lesson-Sermons.

In the early draft just before the Second World War, I entered the armed services. At first I was not certain of my reactions to worldly temptations when away from home, but I soon found that my home was in this wonderful religion that I had been studying.
