My gratitude for Christian Science...

My gratitude for Christian Science is far deeper than words can ever express. I owe to it all the good in my experience. I have been healed of tonsillitis, stomach trouble, a badly infected heel, heavy colds, and severe cuts, to mention a few things. In addition this wonderful truth has brought great freedom from character faults, such as human will and self-righteousness, and has enlightened my thought with a growing sense of peace, joy, and compassion.

A few years ago, at a time when extreme pressure and a sense of depression were disturbing me, the situation was unbearably aggravated by the passing on of my mother. Under this final strain, I became engulfed in an agony of despair and fear. I suffered such mental torture that it was necessary to have the care of Christian Science nurses, as I was unable to go about any normal duties at all. My head felt as though it were bound with an iron band, and I breathed with pain most of the time.

The prayerful work of the practitioners who worked for me at different times and the loving care of the nurses finally broke the mesmerism. One night as I lay on my bed a light flooded my consciousness, and the words, "I have saved thee with an everlasting salvation," came to me as clearly as though spoken aloud in the room. I did not realize for a little while what was occurring, but gradually I understood that Christian Science had saved me from the terrifying mental state from which I had been suffering. From then on, the pressure on my head was gone, I breathed without pain, and I was free. I am convinced that no power on earth could have brought me out of this experience except Science.
